EVNGENCO3 participated in Signing EPC Contract for Fuel Conversion at O Mon 1 Thermal Power Plant

On the afternoon of September 5, 2025, in Can Tho City, Vietnam Electricity Power Generation Joint Stock Corporation 3 (EVNGenco3) participated in the signing ceremony for the Package No. 5 (EPC-01) contract: “Design, supply of technological equipment, and construction of the fuel conversion works at O Mon 1 Thermal Power Plant to utilize Block B gas.” This initiative is a pivotal component of the Gas-Power Block B - O Mon project chain, recognized as one of Vietnam's most significant and complex energy projects.

O Mon 1 Thermal Power Plant

The Block B - O Mon Gas-to-Power Value Chain Project encompasses three main components: the development of the Block B gas field (upstream), the Block B - O Mon pipeline (midstream), and four gas-fueled power plants (O Mon I, II, III, IV) downstream, collectively targeting a total installed capacity of 3,800 MW.

O Mon 1 Thermal Power Plant, invested by Vietnam Electricity Power Generation Corporation 2 (EVNGENCO2) and managed by Can Tho Thermal Power Company, comprises two units with a total capacity of 660 MW. Since its operation in 2008, the plant has generated an average of 1.9 billion kWh annually, contributing significantly to the national power grid. Currently fueled by DO oil, the plant is transitioning to natural gas supplied from Block B, with an anticipated annual consumption of approximately 1.2 billion cubic meters.

Under the EPC-01 contract, the LIGEPS Consortium, comprising EVNGENCO3 and Vietnam Machinery Installation Corporation – JSC (LILAMA), will undertake the project through a turnkey EPC (Engineering – Procurement – Construction and Installation) approach over 21 months. EVNGENCO3's Power Plant Repair Services Company (EPS) has been designated to implement the contract, focusing on key areas to enhance the performance of O Mon 1 Thermal Power Plant.

During the event, Mr. Tran Phu Thai, Chairman of EVNGENCO2's Board of Directors, emphasized that the fuel conversion at O Mon 1 reflects a strategic vision to ensure national energy security and progressively achieve the commitment to net-zero emissions by 2050.

The project owner expressed confidence that the consortium will mobilize resources effectively, manage construction activities to ensure safety and quality, and implement optimal solutions to expedite the project timeline and fulfill contractual obligations efficiently.

Participation in the fuel conversion project at O Mon 1 marks a significant milestone in the development trajectory of EVNGENCO3 and EPS, enhancing their stature and brand in EPC services and power plant equipment upgrades.
