Since its commissioning, Mong Duong Thermal Power Company has consistently adhered to stringent environmental protection regulations, ensuring no environmental incidents have occurred

This was affirmed by Mr. Pham Van Thap, Deputy Director of Mong Duong Thermal Power Company (a subsidiary of Power Generation Corporation 3 under Vietnam Electricity), during a sidelines interview at the World Environment Day (June 5) rally and the 2025 Environmental Action Month. The event took place on the morning of June 1, 2025, at the 30/10 Square in Hạ Long City, Quảng Ninh Province. It was jointly organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the Quảng Ninh Provincial People’s Committee, and assigned to the Agriculture and Environment Newspaper along with relevant units.

Over the years, Mong Duong Thermal Power Company, which manages and operates the Mong Duong 1 Thermal Power Plant—one of the country’s most modern thermal power facilities—has excelled in environmental protection and green, clean production. Its efforts have been recognized by state authorities and the local community. 

With a total investment of VND 37,300 billion, a designed capacity of 1,080 MW, and an average annual electricity output of approximately 6.5 billion kWh, the plant was constructed and operates using advanced technology to ensure high efficiency and strict environmental controls. The adoption of synchronized, modern equipment from the outset has been a critical foundation for the company to simultaneously achieve two goals: ensuring energy security and promoting sustainable development.

Currently, emissions such as dust, gas, smoke, wastewater, and solid waste are closely monitored and maintained well below permissible thresholds. Waste management and sorting have been implemented in strict compliance with regulations since the plant’s early days of operation. At all production areas and offices, waste collection systems are organized according to standards: green bins for household waste, yellow bins for general solid waste, and red bins for hazardous waste.
“The company has welcomed numerous delegations from ministries, local authorities, and other organizations for visits and knowledge-sharing. Many visitors have likened our plant to a park, which is a valuable acknowledgment of our efforts to create a harmonious and safe working environment,” Mr. Phạm Văn Thập shared.

Recently, the Quang Ninh Department of Agriculture and Environment conducted a training session at the company to further guide workers on waste sorting. This initiative has significantly enhanced the awareness and actions of all employees regarding environmental protection. The working environment within the plant, as well as its overall landscape, is consistently maintained to be green, clean, and aesthetically pleasing.

Highlighting the significance of the World Environment Day (June 5) rally and the 2025 Environmental Action Month, Mr. Thập stated: “We are deeply encouraged and extend our sincere gratitude to the leadership of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Quảng Ninh Province, and relevant departments for organizing such a meaningful and practical event. This event not only inspires our officials and employees but also spreads awareness to many other organizations.”

“We hope that, following this rally, the spirit of environmental protection, particularly the reduction of plastic waste, will continue to gain momentum within the community, encouraging every resident of Quang Ninh and the entire nation to join hands in preserving an increasingly green, clean, and beautiful living environment,” Mr. Thap emphasized.
