Despite facing numerous challenges in the first three quarters of 2024, Power Generation Corporation 3 (EVNGenco3) has remained committed to maintaining stable power generation, ensuring it aligns with the system's dispatching requirements.
Sustaining electricity production and supporting workers
In September 2024, EVNGENCO3’s electricity output stood at 1.61 billion kWh, bringing the total for the first nine months to 19.1 billion kWh, equivalent to 66% of the 2024 plan.
Phu My 4 Thermal Power Plant
In the first nine months of 2024, the power system has prioritized the mobilization of renewable energy sources, BOT power plants, and the regulation of water levels in hydropower reservoirs during the dry season, especially amid complex and unpredictable weather conditions. To address these challenges and ensure electricity supply, EVNGENCO3 has implemented various measures, including: Implementing the scheme for improving power plant reliability and operational efficiency, reducing fuel consumption and self-consumed electricity; conducting regular inspections, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance to promptly identify and resolve equipment issues, and sending technical assistance teams to power plants, providing on-site assistance, and encouraging workers during peak operation and maintenance periods. These efforts ensure that generators remain in optimal condition, ready to operate safely, reliably, and efficiently, meeting the demands of the national power system.
Since March 1, 2024, the Corporation has undertaken the management, operation, and maintenance of the Phu My 3 Power Plant under a service contract with EVN. Preparations are also underway for assuming the same responsibility for the Phu My 2.2 BOT Power Plant.
In response to Workers' Month, the Month of Action on Occupational Safety and Health, and in celebration of the 70th anniversary of Vietnam’s electricity industry, EVNGENCO3 organized the 3rd "Excellent Safety and Hygiene Workers" Contest – 2024, honored 38 outstanding electricity workers and 17 exemplary safety and hygiene workers at the corporate level, recognized 11 individuals with the "Outstanding Worker" title at the Corporation level, rewarded 15 exemplary women for their excellence, hosted sports activities and running competitions in Quy Nhon and Buon Ma Thuot for the Corporation’s employees, inaugurated a multi-purpose gymnasium at Vinh Tan Power Center to promote employee well-being, team spirit, and inter-unit engagement through fitness activities.
During Typhoon No. 3, EVNGENCO3’s power plants in storm- and flood-affected areas maintained the operational safety of their works while effectively coordinating water regulation to mitigate flooding. Right after the Typhoon, the Corporation promptly encouraged its employees to contribute one day’s wage to aid affected communities in Northern provinces, sent missions to console and provide financial assistance of over 300 million VND to employees whose families suffered losses, donated more than 3.4 billion VND to Yen Bai, Quang Ninh, and Ninh Binh Provinces, assisting local authorities in disaster recovery and resident’s livelihood restoration efforts.
Targeting Green, Clean Energy and Environmental Responsibility
Pursuing green and clean energy remains a core guiding principle in EVNGENCO3's investment and development strategy for 2024. The Corporation continues to actively foster partnerships and explore investment opportunities in onshore and offshore wind power projects, the conversion of the Ninh Binh Thermal Power Plant to ICE flexible power technology, and floating solar power projects on the Buon Kuop and Srepok hydropower reservoirs.
Vinh Tan 2 Thermal Power Plant sustains measures to ensure a green, clean, and sustainable environment.
Environmental protection efforts continue to be strictly maintained, with all power plants complying with regulatory requirements. The results of regular monitoring of emissions, wastewater, cooling water, and surrounding environmental conditions at Mong Duong 1, Vinh Tan 2, and Ninh Binh Thermal Power Plants remain within permissible limits, with real-time data transmitted 24/7 to the local Department of Natural Resources and Environment and displayed on electronic boards at plant entrances for public monitoring. Meanwhile, Buon Kuop, Vinh Son - Song Hinh, and Thac Ba Hydropower Plants ensure the safety of reservoirs and dams, actively participate in downstream water regulation during the dry season, and implement flood and storm prevention, and rescue in 2024 under the coordination plan with local authorities.
As part of its social security efforts, EVNGENCO3 continues to implement various charitable and community support initiatives in the localities where it operates, such as the construction and repair of eight Great Unity houses and Loving Shelters in Binh Thuan, Phu Yen, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Quang Ninh, and Kon Tum provinces; implementation of youth-led "Lighting up the Country roads" projects in Thu Duc City and Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province; provision of care and assistance to disadvantaged students, including those orphaned by COVID-19; delivery of emergency aid such as water tanks, water cans, and drinking water to residents in the Western region affected by drought and salinity intrusion; distribution of gifts to policy families, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, and child patients during Tet and holidays; and provision of disaster recovery efforts to help affected communities. The Corporation’s total social security budget for the first nine months of 2024 exceeds 9 billion VND.
Striving to Achieve the 2024 Annual Plan
In October 2024, EVNGENCO3 expects its electricity output at 2.449 billion kWh, with a total estimated generation of 25.707 billion kWh for the whole year. The Corporation's power plants are fully stocked with coal, gas, and oil according to the operational plan for the final months of 2024 and preparations for the 2025 dry season so that all units are maintained at maximum availability to meet power supply demands promptly.
Operators of Srepok 3 Plant (Buon Kuop Hydropower Company) on duty for power production
Additionally, the Corporation plans to implement the remaining servicing facilities as planned for 2024 to ensure the high availability and operational readiness of power plants during the 2025 dry season and promote repair services both within and beyond EVNGENCO3, ensuring credibility, quality, and progress. Coal-fired power plants continue to maintain a safe production environment while actively enhancing the utilization of ash and slag for leveling and road construction. Furthermore, the Corporation is going to initiate the trial run of the ash and slag segregation line at Vinh Tan Thermal Power Plant, progressing toward its official operation.
The Corporation actively engages in activities celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Vietnam Electricity Industry’s Traditional Day on December 21, remains committed to achieving the targets and plans assigned by EVN and approved by the General Meeting of Shareholders, fosters the application of science and technology in production and business, and enhances efficiency in power market operations, and upholds practices of thrift and waste combat.
