Currently, in some mass media, it is mentioned that there is a "shortage of 01 million tons of coal for thermal power production". To avoid public misunderstanding about the responsibilities of coal suppliers, Vietnam Electricity (EVN) would like to clarify the above information as follows:

In the first months of 2023, the effective coordination and coal supply efforts of Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (VINACOMIN) and Northeast Corporation have contributed to EVN's power production and supply for economic development and serving people's lives. Especially, since the meeting organized on May 9, 2023, between EVN and VINACOMIN and Northeast Corporation, all units using anthracite have operated at maximum as required by the system, and none of the units stopped/reduced capacity due to the shortage of coal.

According to the updated plan, the mobilized output of coal-fired power plants in June and July 2023, especially power plants in the North, will be at maximum capacity and output. Specifically, the total expected output of EVN's anthracite coal-fired power plants in 2 months, June and July, is 12.33 billion kWh, equivalent to 6.03 million tons of coal demand. Therefore, at the beginning of June, EVN organized a meeting with VINACOMIN and Northeast Corporation to propose these two units provide an additional 1 million tons of coal in addition to the signed contract quantity to ensure enough coal for power production needs in June and July 2023 and increase the quantity of coal stored in the warehouse at a suitable level before the rainy season. EVN is to continue actively coordinating with VINACOMIN and Northeastern Corporation to find solutions to supply enough coal for power production in accordance with the direction of the Prime Minister./.
