On the morning of March 21, 2023, in Ninh Binh, the World Bank collaborated with Ninh Binh Thermal Power Joint Stock Company (NBTPC) to organize the workshop " On Ninh Binh Coal-Fired Power Plant repurposing study ".
Attending the workshop, on behalf of the World Bank, were senior energy experts including Mr. Chu Ba Thi, Mr. Debabrata Chattopadhyay, and Mr. Stratos Tavoulareas. The workshop was also attended by representatives from the Climate Change Department (Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment), the Energy Institute, leaders of the Department of Industry and Trade, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Ninh Binh, representatives of the Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) units, the National Power System Dispatch Centre, the Power Generation Corporations (GENCO1, GENCO2, GENCO3), power engineering consulting companies (PECC1, PECC2, PECC4), the PetroVietnam Power Corporation, the Cao Ngan Thermal Power Company, and AES Mong Duong.
Representatives from EVNGENCO3 and Ninh Binh Thermal Power Joint Stock Company attending the conference included Mr. Nguyen Thanh Trung Duong - Deputy General Director of EVNGENCO3, Chairman of the Company's Board of Directors, Mr. Trinh Van Doan - General Director of the Company, and leaders of the Company's Departments and Workshops.

At the workshop, World Bank experts presented international research on the conversion of coal-fired power plants, feasible options for converting the Ninh Binh coal-fired power plant, and estimated impacts on the economy, environment, and employment. Experts from the Energy Institute presented an analysis of the current situation, the structure of the power system in the region, the demand for support services, and the role of the Ninh Binh coal-fired power plant in stabilizing power capacity and voltage in the Northern region in the coming years.

The workshop also heard many valuable opinions and discussions from the representatives of the attendees on the power systems in the region, the demand for support services, and the cost-benefit analysis methods in the electricity industry today.
After the seminar, Ninh Binh Thermal Power Joint Stock Company will continue to coordinate with the World Bank to implement the next steps to realize the goal of sustainable energy conversion and development.
