On the sidelines of the visit of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to the United States in May 2022 and based on the working agenda of the leaders of the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), Power Generation Corporation 3 (EVNGENCO3) has worked with some LNG suppliers such as Tellurian Inc, Cheniere Energy and the long-time partner, General Electric Corporation.
Working with Cheniere Energy
The working agenda at the Office of Cheniere Energy, Houston City, Texas State is chaired by Mr. Duong Quang Thanh - Chairman of the Member’s Council of EVN, participants include leaders of EVNGENCO3, EVN’s Departments and other leaders of some relevant divisions of EVN; on the part of Cheniere Energy, participants include Mr. Anatol Feygin (Vice President, CEO) and other members.
Currently, the US’s LNG supply capacity is ranked 2nd in the world (the 1st is Australia and the 3rd is Qatar) with a total capacity of about 85 million tons/year (MPTA). In particular, Cheniere Energy is the 2nd largest LNG supplier in the world with a supply capacity up to 45 MPTA, exporting more than 2,100 LNG vessels to the world market.
At the meeting, the parties have introduced and provided a lot of useful information about the capacity and demand of the LNG gas supply for power generation. The parties have also proposed to maintain the relationship and discussed opportunities for cooperation in the LNG supply in the short and long term for EVN/EVNGENCO3 in the coming time. In addition, the delegation of EVN/EVNGENCO3 has visited the technology line of Sabine Pass LNG Project with a total capacity of up to 30 MPTA.
Working with Tellurian Inc.
Also in Houston, Texas, the U.S.A., Mr. Dinh Quoc Lam - Chairman of the Board of Directors of EVNGENCO3 has chaired and worked with Tellurian Inc. with the participation of Mr. Keith Teague - Chief Executive Officer, Mr. John Howie - Vice President of Upstream Division and other related members. Tellurian Inc. is currently developing the Driffwood LNG Project with a total capacity of up to 27.6 MPTA.
At the meeting, the parties have discussed development plans, short- and long-term needs and agreed to continue coordinating to seek cooperation opportunities in the coming time.
Strengthening the cooperation with a long-time partner - General Electric Corporation (GE)
At the Office of General Electric in Washington D.C., Mr. Dinh Quoc Lam - Chairman of the Board of Directors of EVNGENCO3 has worked with the long-time partner - GE. On the part of the GE, participants include Mr. Mark Albenze - Deputy General Director of GE Gas Power, Mr. Kazunari Fukui - General Director of GE Gas Power Asia, and other related members.
At the meeting, EVNGENCO3 has emphasized the roles and promoted the long-term cooperation relationship between the two companies over the past 20 years in terms of operation and repair of Phu My Thermal Power Plant’s Gas Turbine of EVNGENCO3 and other maintenance and repair services of other mechanical parts gas turbines of GE. Based on the good cooperation results in the past time, the parties have agreed to continue to strengthen the coordination and cooperation in the field of O&M services for power plants as well as cooperation in the development of new projects.
Also within the framework of the visit to the U.S.A., the delegation of EVNGENCO3 has participated in the working agendas with the leaders of the EVN:
1. Signing and exchanging the MOU between EVN and General Electric Corporation under the witness of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and U.S. Secretary of Commerce - Ms. Gina Raimondo:
2. Working with the U.S. Trade and Development Agency - USTDA on the support situation for EVN in the past time and expected capacity to continue supporting EVN in the fields of offshore wind power development, Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), Hydrogen fuels, etc.
3. Working with the World Bank to discuss the current implementation of funded projects and WB’s capital support for EVN in the coming time.
